She joined the Valparaiso University Guild of Appleton and was elected to a state office in that organization.

Vera enjoyed working with the women of Riverview making quilts for the Apache mission in Arizona. She also enjoyed traveling with Henry and being at the cottage on Lake Arbutus. Vera moved to Luther Haven, a retirement community in Milwaukee, in There she and her family celebrated her 95th, 98th, 99th, and th birthdays. She enjoyed those family gatherings very much.
